The process of class placement is a sensitive and complex endeavor. Each year, our grade-level teachers work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create future classes based on the following criteria:
- A balanced range of achievement and ability levels.
- An equitable distribution of students receiving special services and additional support.
- A balance of gender and total number of students.
- Productive inter-relationships, including behavioral, social, and emotional considerations.
These factors are carefully considered by classroom teachers, specialists, and our school psychologist. If you feel there is an extraordinary circumstance regarding your child’s needs, strengths, or peer dynamics, you may provide the placement team with your perspective via email. Written communication creates a record we can refer to throughout the process.
Please note that we do not refer to letters from past years, as students grow and change quickly at this age. If you wish to share concerns, please contact us via email by Monday, March 30. We cannot guarantee consideration for any correspondence we receive after this date.
Please see our letter to parents regarding class placement for more information.
